As you all know that the Department of Telecom (DOT) had decided to issue 13-digit numbers to telecom operators. The trial was decided for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications like smart electric metres and gps tracking devices. Trial became successful and DoT had asked telecom service providers to start issuing 13-digit numbers for SIM based machine-to-machine (M2M) services and now the 13 digit phone numbers are available for M2M Sim Card, which will co-exist with 10-digit numbers. But don’t get alarmed, as your mobile number will not have 13 digits.
The 13 digit phone numbers are available only for M2M Sim Card, which will co-exist with 10-digit numbers.
What is M2M Sim?
Machine-to-Machine (M2M) SIM refers to the technologies that enable devices and sensors (within the IoT) to communicate with each other and with other Internet-enabled devices and systems. M2M sim cards are being used in GPS Tracking Systems most widely. These SIM cards are not being used for calling. These are enabled with INTERNET and SMS only. So that it can send the device logs(data packet) to a particular IP/Server through TCP/IP communication.
